How The Mighty Have Fallen

Just one short year ago shouts of "Yes We Can" and "Hope and Change" rang across America. Our bright new President was in charge, Democrats held an overwhelming majority in Congress, George Bush was being blamed for anything and everything that went wrong, and liberal pundits were declaring the Republican party dead and bankrupt of ideas.
Early on in the Obama presidency a $787 billion dollar spending plan was ram rodded through Congress.."No time to think about it, we need to get this done to save America" was the theme.
Obama and Congress took over the auto industry, villified the financial industry and set out to over take the healthcare industry.....then a funny thing happened.
Rather than swoon at his every word and marvel at his numerous talk show appearances Americans actually started LISTENING to what he was saying...and they stopped buying it!
The results have been astounding. Healthcare reform is going much slower than planned (perhaps it's because all polls show the vast majority of Americans were against an overhaul of our healthcare system to begin with.)
Obama also embarrassed himself in the Coppenhagen Olympic debacle taking some of the shine off of his celebrity reputation. In addition Democrats lost two key governors races in New Jersey and Virginia, and liberal Senate supporters Harry Reid and Chris Dodd are in big trouble in Nevada and Connecticut, (with Dodd having announced his retirement) putting those seats up for grabs for the first time in years. When you add to the mix that his wishy/washy "surge with a timetable" game plan for Afghanistan angered both liberals and conservatives alike it's easy to see why the President is heading into his second term with only a 46% approval rating..the lowest rating for a President at that juncture since they started tracking it!
On top of all of this healthcare reform will suffer it's biggest blow yet in a few days when the previously unthinkable happens and Republican Scott Brown wins the special election for Ted Kennedy's seat in Massachusetts..a seat Democrats have held for 60 years and more importantly taking away the Dems magic 60th vote in the Senate.
Wow! All of this and mid term elections are still 10 months away..."YES...WE...CAN!"...and that's what shim sez...
